ONCE upon a time, when all the animals lived in peace and friendship, there was The Rat. She was very small so no one paid attention on her. It's always made The Rat very sad. Also, she had small round head with no ears visible and thought that it made her appearance ugly. So she was spending days and weeks thinking: "If I were as beautiful as Sun and as pretty as strawberry, everybody would know about me!". Yes, she was very vain, grouchy and didn't like other animals because they didn't notice her.
One sunny day The Rat went to a lawn nearby to find some food. As you might remember, she was very small so she couldn't get at any bush to eat its berries and she had to feed on tasteless grass and roots. The Rat was trying to find something which was less or more tasty, complaining on her hard lines and
suddenly somebody stepped on her long, snake-like tail! The Rat screeched and cried: "Could you be more accurate?!", because she was very polite in spite of her small size and bad temper.
"Sorry", said The Elephant (because it was he who stepped The Rat's tail), "I didn't notice you". He didn't say that it happened because The Rat was very small (he was very polite too), but The Rat burst into tears anyway. "No one never noticed me", she cried (she was so upset so forgot about grammar rules). "I'm too small and too ugly!".
"No", said The Elephant. "You're quite cute, I think". The Rat was surprised and didn't trust him. "I wish I were as beautiful as Sun", she said, "or had big pretty ears like yours at least". "Oh, I can't make you as beautiful as Sun, only you can do it. But I still can give you ears like mine", answered The Elephant, picked couple of wild rose petals and set it to the place, where The Rat's ears had to be.
"Oh, they are great!", exclaimed The Rat, when she saw her reflection in a puddle. "Thank you very much". The Elephant was surprised with her politeness and treated her with a lot of berries.
The Rat was very happy and had been sad never after.
